Levon’s First Birthday + Party Planning Checklist

Let’s kick off the new year with a very special post all about Levon’s bday! I still can’t believe I have a ONE year old. Like WHAT???!!??!?!?!?

You guys know Levon turned 1 last November and we threw him an amazing FIRST birthday party that took me about a month to plan; which isn’t very long in the party planning world. I wanted to hire a party planner but honestly it just wasn’t worth the money because I had the vision, the time, and the resources to do it all myself…so why not.

If I can do it, literally anyone can!

So anytime I want to host or plan a party I think about my theme before anything else, I search all over Pinterest and Instagram for inspo, gather all my ideas, then I go ahead with actually putting in the work to plan.

Here’s a super easy guide/list you can print or save in your phone to help you get organized while planning your next party:

Right click, save image, then print.

I went for a rustic French theme with a neutral color palette since we were going to be outside with a beautiful view of Belaire Hills. I wanted my guests to feel the Parisian vibe throughout with the whole “Monsieur Levon” theme and all the little details. I loved the idea of having a boulangerie (bakery) where guests could fill up custom goodies bags with baked goods, I mean you don’t get more French than that right? LOL. I also had custom pins made with monsieur Levon’s face for all the kids. I’m kind of a detail freak and I think it makes all the difference when you add little touches here and there while keeping the theme in mind!

Please note that all the vendors I’m mentioning below are AMAZING and I would go with them all over again if I had to, especially the dessert and food. WOW!

When I was searching for a venue I wanted something that would fit in with my theme and Peekaboo Playland (Belaire) was the perfect spot. They have an awesome patio area with a gorgeous view of the hills. The location is super secluded too!

My favorite part was that my guests showed up to a venue they had never been to before. Like 97% of my guests had never been to this indoor playground, which is a huge plus for Armenians since we tend to do parties at the same locations every time.

Atam Hatik “Teething Party”:

Armenians do this traditional teething party for babies once they get their first tooth and I decided to combine Levon’s with his birthday because his first tooth came just a few weeks before. We usually start by putting a piece of tulle over the baby, dropping cooked barley all over it, and wishing the baby healthy teeth. The cooked barley represents healthy teeth. Then we put objects, or in my case chocolates, in front of them that represent professions. We then have this fun little game of the baby picking a few items to guess his/her future profession. Oddly enough when I had this party as a baby I picked a pen (writer) and money. I’m a blogger who isn’t rich yet but I’m working towards it LOL! Levon picked a car, doctor, and scissors. We predict he’ll be surgeon (preferably plastic 😂) with a nice car. Do you guys do something like this in your culture? I’d love to hear in the comments below.

Chocolates: Chocolate Pops by Alice

Even though the party took place at an indoor playground and that’s plenty of entertainment for kids (even babies) I wanted to bring some more fun to the party. I hired an entertainer from Happily Ever Laughter and she did face painting, singing, and glitter tattoos.

His stripped bodysuit and stripped romper are sold out and I can’t find it anywhere so I listed other options. All his outfits were from Jacadi (favorite kids clothing brand ever). Oh, and it’s French haha.

Shoes: Dr. Mymi they have a store in Hollywood where I got his shoes from. They are an amazing orthopedic shoe brand.

Wool Beret: Zara

Dress: Zara

Heels: Stuart Weitzman

Photographer: Chasing Pleasures

I’m going to end this post with a huge thank you to the incredible vendors that helped pull this party off without a hitch. So glad I found some talented people I can hire time and time again from the rentals to the food. Not a single person left hungry or disappointed, in fact I got countless texts and questions about all the vendors. That’s how you know you pulled off an awesome party.

If you’re planning a party don’t forget to save my helpful checklist and share it with all your girlfriends. Sending you all good luck and lots of love!
