When it comes to baby products I use for Levon I am pretty careful with what I use. Over the two years that I have been experimenting with baby products I have come to love a few in particular that I always repurchase. It’s so surprising that as a product junkie I’m able to stick to the same few products I’ve been using for almost 2 years now, but hey they work well.
As a mom I know how hard it can be to find the perfect products for your little one so don’t stress mamas that’s what I’m here for 🙂
Here are my favorite baby products that I always repurchase:
Everything listed are the exact products I always repurchase because I love the quality & product so much!
Let me know what your favorite baby products are in the comments below!
TWO days until New Years, where did the time go????? Tell me you don’t feel this way every time the new year rolls around?!
It’s crazy how fast life passes us by and how things evolve, like my taste in products or even my new sense of makeup style. With every passing year I reflect on life, my accomplishments, my career goals, my mom goals, literally everything! I even reflect on my favorite things, things I haven’t been able to stop using or raving about. I rounded them all up and listed them below. Be sure to comment some of your favorite 2018 items in the comments below…enjoy!
I don’t know about you guys but I love getting Levon’s closet ready for the Holidays. The end of the year is my favorite time of year because Fall is here, Thanksgiving is close, Black Friday is even closer lol, and of course my favorite holiday of them all- Christmas!
Agh, Christmas is what I wait for ALL year. The decor, the adorable santa outfits, and lots of picture taking for his memory books. OMG! Memory books are the best, they are the modern version of albums and I’m so glad because they are easier to put together (all online), last longer, and keep everything organized. Shutterfly is my favorite platform for this. I’ve made Levon 3 books so far and they are literally the best! Click here for a free photo book.
Anyways, I love getting him dressed for that months special holiday and I have just the outfits and decor for each occasion, especially Christmas.
Being a first time mom is probably the most challenging transition a woman goes through in life. Life as you know it changes completely and all of a sudden you are responsible for this adorable and innocent little human being. During the chaos of what is now your new life the last thing you need is to be missing something that the baby happens to need that exact second. Believe me, no one can bare to listen to a crying baby for more than a few minutes.
Below I have a list of newborn must haves that will come to make your life A LOT easier. These are products you are actually going to use and that I highly recommend for all mommies who have, or are about to have, a baby. It includes things you’ll need on hand at all times, and things you’ll need to make life just a little less complicated.
It’s necessary for all newborns to sleep close to their mother for quite a few months until they are old enough to sleep in their own room. They need constant care and supervision, even throughout the night, which is why a bassinet is on everyone’s “must-haves” list. The Halo in particular is a popular product because of its useful features such as:
360 degree swivel
baby is easily accessible
you can see the baby through the mesh
conveniently stands right next to your bed
Here’s a quick YouTube video demonstrating its features.
I love it even more because the dock-a-tot fits exactly into the bassinet, which brings me to my next must have.
P.S. The Halo does not come with a mattress pad so if you are planning to purchase the dock-a-tot then you won’t need this for a few months but if are not then be sure to buy it with the bassinet. You also need mattress pad covers and since the bassinet has a unique hourglass shape the sheets are only offered by the brand; they have muslin covers and cotton covers. They aren’t the best quality but its the only option out there unfortunately. If I had to choose between the two I would choose the muslin covers.
The dock-a-tot was originally created for adults to safely co-sleep with their babies, since it’s obviously unsafe to sleep with a newborn between you and your partner.
It’s however so much more than that. It’s like a compact little bed made to fit snug like the womb so that newborns can sleep peacefully, it’s breathable so if the infant sticks his face on the sides he’ll be okay, and it is also the perfect travel item. I love that I can take the dock-a-tot anywhere. If I was upstairs I would keep it in his Halo, and if I was downstairs I would put it on the couch. I could have also taken it to my mom’s house or even to a hotel with me. In all honesty though, the best part of this really is that it’s a safe way to co-sleep with the baby. My husbands and my favorite thing to do was to put this between us and just stare at him and smell him all night- the side cushions are firm enough so you can’t roll on top of it. Now that Levon is 9 months old I keep it on the floor in his room and he loves climbing all over it.
I personally never gave my son a pacifier throughout the day unless he was really fussy, which was rare. I only gave it to him when it was sleep time so he can associate a paci with bedtime. His favorite were these Philips Avent ones.
Another necessity- a bath tub. I have had my fair share of struggles when it comes to tubs. I bought all the fancy ones and ended up returning them because they were just uncomfortable. This was the best one I found and it was the cheapest! It’s only $25 and I used it until he was about 6 or 7 months old. It’s the perfect size for a newborn and if you unhook the end of that yellow part then it becomes perfect for an infant. I loved it even more with a cushion when he was a newbie.
Also, since you’ll be on your knees and elbows the whole time you NEED, like neeeeeeedddddd, a kneeler and an elbow rest. I cannot bathe him without this stuff I swear it is a life saver. You’ll also need a rinser, this is my favorite.
Mustela is my favorite baby brand on the market and their newborn shampoo is the best. I still use their Cleansing Gel on Levon, it is the only body wash I have tried that removes all the crap on his skin (oil, sunscreen, rash cream, etc) while still being gentle.
Fun fact: I used to use this on my face and chest when I was breastfeeding so I didn’t expose myself to any harmful chemicals. Worked amazing!
This was the pump I rented when Levon was born. I knew I was going to breastfeed for as long as I possibly could (read all about my experience here) so I rented it from the hospital and my hospital gave me a free starter kit so I didn’t have to purchase anything. I wouldn’t recommend buying it because it’s over $1,000 and it’s way more economical to rent it out. I also used these little baggies to store my milk and these nursing pads to keep from leaking. Oh, and this was the best nipple cream on the market.
This is the only bottle I still use today. It is the only glass bottle I have found, it is perfect for newborns because it reduces colic and gas, and it also comes with a silicone sleeve so if you drop it it doesn’t break! This is the only bottle I recommend for newborns, once they become a little older you can use the Como Tomo bottle. These two are all I used, and still use, I never bought any other bottles.
All babies have a little bit of gas no matter what you do to prevent it. This was the only product on the market that actually helped him. It is also the only product that isn’t absorbed in your body so you can use it as many times as you’d like. It esentially breaks up the babies gas bubbles and helps them fart it out.
Okay you guys please listen to me when I say you will not be dressing your newborn up everyday. One, most days you are going to be inside of the house. Two, you are going to be so exhausted that the last thing you will care about is an outfit. Three, these are the most comfortable clothes for babies so just don’t bother, at least not when they are just a few months old. Four, cute outfits don’t fit them the way you’d expect so just wait to purchase them until they are at least 2.5 or 3 months old (unless you have a photoshoot or event). Oh and, you will get so many cute outfits as gifts from friends and family so just don’t waste your money on the cute stuff just yet. You’ll really only need long sleeve bodysuits and short sleeve.
Sleep and Play’s are head to toe bodysuits that cover the toes and even the hands. That way you don’t have to put mittens on them (trust me they are annoying, they always come off). I love the zipper ones from Carter’s because they are so easy, Target also has a bunch of cute ones.
These were literally the best hats everrrrrr! So lightweight and easily absorbable. I would put it on him after bath time and it would soak up all the water from his hair, then I’d switch out for a new one and have him sleep with that. This is also the only hat that actually fit him up until now, can you believe it. It’s the only hat I really used. All the other cute ones fit him for a few short weeks then he’d outgrow it. My advice would be to just take as many as you can from the hospital because I promise you this will be one of your most used items. If you need something that keeps the baby warm, then this is my fav.
These are the best clothes for swaddling, covering, and pretty much doing anything for the baby. They are 100% cotton, lightweight, and another one of your necessities. The ones from Target are great too! If you want something thicker to keep the baby warm then these are my favorite. Oh, and if you want something cuter to use outside of the house this cashmere blanket was my ride-or-die since Levon was born in the Winter (I still use it).
You’ll need to burp the baby after every feeding and sometimes they’ll throw up so these burping cloths are great for that. They are 100% cotton and they have a curve that lays perfectly on your shoulder. Also, don’t worry about buying bibs because you won’t use it for a few months. Instead buy these clothes to wipe their mouthes.
This detergent removes tough throw up stains, breastmilk stains, and food stains. It is also hypoallergenic, which is always a plus. If there is a stubborn stain that this doesn’t remove then I would use Baby Oxiclean, this stuff removes EVERYTHING!
This was my absolute favorite diaper. Diapers are another trial-and-error kind of product but I find that these are the best for newborns. Don’t buy more than one large pack because they outgrow the newborn size pretty soon. Also, these were my favorite newborn wipes.
When it comes to rash cream I highly suggest buying a smaller size of this Triple paste and trying it out. I personally like it but I don’t love it. I’ve used an entire jar of it but I’m always trying new baby products to find the best ones. So in complete honesty, this isn’t the best one but it does get the job done. Apply a generous amount!
Newborns have the best skin don’t they? It is our job to keep it that way. Sometimes they can get dry skin and this was the best product for that. I liked to warm it up with my hands then apply it all over my sons body. It kept him moisturized for hours!
This is an alcohol & fragrance free hand sanitizer I always had on my changing table. Sometimes I needed to quickly change his diaper because he was crying and didn’t have time to wash my hands so I would use this. I would also use it if I had washed my hands just for extra protection. I was kind of an anal and paranoid first time mom lol.
This is the best baby creation ever you guys. It makes cleaning the baby’s nose so easy, clean, and simple. Kind of weird when you first try it, because you have to suction with your mouth, but I promise you it eventually feels normal. This is a must to have around the house just in case baby gets a stuffy nose.
This is the stroller I decided to go with because it was cute and convenient. The wheels on this thing are so easy to ride but kind of annoying to store- they’re really big. However, the biggest upside is that the car seat can go from the car base onto the stroller base so it’s really easy to take a newborn everywhere with this stroller. I also love that the car seat reclines, no other carseat on the market does that. I was completely sold on the safety of it too, it has these metal things that you pull out from the side and god forbid you’re in an accident those rods take most of the impact. Amazing right?!
I have a two-story house so I needed to purchase something that I could use downstairs as well. Something that didn’t take up a lot of space but was still useful. I bought this from BuyBuy Baby and it was seriously the best investment ever- I still use it today! I love products that grow with the baby because then you can really get your moneys worth, and this product does that.
Comes with a changing station and seater- total 3 products for the price of one!
Easy to clean
Has side pockets for necessities you need to keep on hand
Soft enough for the baby to sleep in
Doubles as a play pen for later
When the baby outgrows the changing station and seater, it’s going to be annoying to store those 2 items somewhere.
At about one month old I started introducing Levon to playmats because they were engaging and would keep him occupied. He loved this thing for months because it was colorful, it had toys, and it came with a tummy time pillow which I used all the time. He still plays with the toys today, I just removed them from their hanging slots.
I wanted to include this in the travel section because it’s perfect for travel. It’s small, doesn’t weigh much, and it’s perfect for babies. Best part? Comes with a little section where you can put your phone and take pictures and videos all day.
That’s it for my newborn necessities guide mamas. I only included items you WILL use with your newborn baby and most of these are items they will use until they are infants!
What they won’tneed or use are things like…
Wipe warmers- tossed mine out
Those Mamaroo seaters that vibrate and move- useless, you get a seater with the Pack & Play
I have been wanting to post pictures of my sons nursery for quite sometime now…better late than never right? I had it decorated before he was born so it was ready by the time he had his newborn photoshoot. However, I have been wanting to add and change things but haven’t found the time and I realized this post will never go up if I wait to redesign a few things.
I’ll start off with my inspiration…
As you can see I wanted something neutral, calm, and airy. I’m not into the cliché blue for boys, I literally can’t stand it. I’m very much about calming nudes and pastels. I included a lot of animals in his room and I must admit my absolute favorite part of his bedroom is the animal prints from ElfinLilac on Etsy. The artist, Antonia, is so sweet and talented. Her prints are high quality and they come in the mail in less than a week. I’ve referred her to all my friends and family and everyone who’s purchased from her shop has been very pleased. I’ll definitely be ordering from her again!
OK, it’s no secret I am a full blown product junkie. I mean lets be real my previous tagline used to be “The go-to blog for makeup junkies.” So fitting. Which is why it comes as no surprise that I’m a crazy-product-junkie-mom. Who does that benefit? Well definitely not my husbands wallet, for sure. Poor guys hates going to Target or Buybuybaby with me. But I can’t help it I just want to find great products for me and my baby. That’s why I try everything, well everything with the RIGHT ingredients. If I’m willing to buy something twice, or keep backups in the closet, then I know I love that product. I’m basically going to be listing all my loves that I use on a daily basis in this post.
P.S. All the affiliate links below are to buybuyBABY & they always have 20% off coupon codes every month. This months code is:
I have like 7 of these bottles (plus some extras stashed away) currently drying on my rack. I used to hate these bottles because they would leak ALL THE TIME but I figured out that I was pairing the two inserts incorrectly (video below for reference). I also noticed that once I stopped “sanitizing” my bottles after every use the inserts wouldn’t get loose. By sanitizing I mean pouring boiling hot filtered water over them AFTER I’ve washed them. I used to do this every single time I washed all his bottles.
I love these because they have an easy flow
The nipple has one small hole so it prevents the baby from chugging their milk quickly (huge plus for me). Benefits? They eat slower so they notice they are full and don’t cry for more. They don’t throw up your hard earned liquid gold, aka breastmilk, (or formula).
Reduces colic, gas, and spit-ups.
It’s glass which is the main reason why I love it. Why is glass better than plastic?
The only cons is that there are so many parts that it’s annoying to wash & if you pair the insert incorrectly they leak.
I love this little lawn because the grass holds all different shapes and sizes, its BPA free, doesn’t scratch bottles, doesn’t rust, and it’s just really easy to use. If you are a new mom I would suggest buying the large one because bottles eventually add up. I also have the stand insert so I can hang his pacifiers, mini teething toys, pumping essentials, etc.
Since we are on the topic of washing bottles… I have 2 favorite brushes that make this task easy peasy. One is this Dr. Brown’s brush (get it in pink!) and the other is the Munchkin brush. I always have back-ups of both because I butcher my brushes when I’m washing bottles and I also like to switch it out often (just like you switch out dishwashing sponges) because bacteria tends to build up. I don’t have a preference, I just kind of go with whatever I find in the store. If you are traveling though I would suggest the Munchkin one because it’s smaller and it also has a nipple cleaner on one end.
Ok, lets be real for a second. How many times a day does your baby get fussy? Mine, at least 3-4 times a day…usually before nap time (he does this new thing where he’s super sleepy but refuses to nap…joy). I mean babies are BABIES at the end of the day, they have good days and bad days. Some days they are angels and most days you wonder how you got here. Like why me?! Why today!
When they are newborns they are usually fussy because of gas and this is initially what this product does, is break up gas bubbles in their stomach. So if you are a new mom and you are looking for an IMMEDIATE cure to your babies gassiness, then this is a life saver. I literally wouldn’t leave the house without it and I had backups upstairs & downstairs. Yes, it’s that much of a necessity.
My son is a few days shy of being 5 months old and I still use it every.single.day! Not for gas though.
Let me put it this way…
It’s 10pm. He’s sleepy. You’re sleepy. He’s bathed and clean. You smell from running around all day. He wants to sleep but is getting frustrated because he needs just a little bit of help. Your pat on the butt isn’t helping and at this point he’s full on screaming at you *this is where you cuss out your husband for knocking you up*. So what do you do? Well, you just insert that pretty yellow syringe into this magical cocktail and you give your baby some damn Mylicon. Instantly, he’s sucking his paci and your butt patting is working. Five minutes later he’s knocked out.
No there is no sleeping aid in this… although it works so well I secretly think there might be lol.
It DOES NOT absorb into the body like gripe water…so you can use it up to 12x a day.
:: Google:mylicon absorption vs gripe water.
Anyways, I love this stuff and I only use it for extreme cases of fussiness because like anything else, I don’t want to overdo it. I would suggest doing your own research on this stuff or consulting your doctor but in my experience it’s one of those things I always have on hand.
I love Mustela products because they are hypoallergenic and really gentle on babies skin because they are made for babies skin. I use this specific product only on the babies body and it cleans him up really well without drying him out. I find that most body washes don’t remove the sticky stuff, like diaper rash creams, but this product does! I don’t like to use this in his hair because it makes his hair really oily.
What I love most about this product…
Biodegradable formula is composed of 90% plant-based ingredients
Fortified with Vitamin B5 to keep skin’s natural oils intact
Paraben, and Phenoxyethanol free
Hypoallergenic and specially formulated to minimize the risk of allergic reactions
If you have a newborn, I highly highly recommend getting the Mustela newborn foam shampoo. This is the only shampoo I used on Levon for months (still use it sometimes). They also have the foam shampoo for babies with cradle cap (don’t use it unless your baby has it).
Currently, I am loving this SheaMoisture shampoo with raw shea camomile and argan oil. I’m very careful to not use any harsh chemical on the baby and so I never use anything with fragrance (only natural fragrance from essential oils), parabens, sulfates, etc. Anyways, this stuff is gentle but smells great. It cleans all the puke out of his hair, yup thats a serious issue in my house lol. My son likes to roll around in his one throw-up. Incredible right? I mean the kid is talented! I literally can never clean it in time. He just always wins. I also love foam shampoos because I can feel the lather, you know.
Shea butter and chamomile soothes and heals irritated skin
Free of sulfates, parabens, mineral oil and petroleum
I’m one of those parents who treats my baby like a mini adult, okay. I have conversations with him in the mornings about our day, I rant about how I need a manicure, I tell him how Harvard is the best fit for him, and I occasionally teach him how to make a burrata salad. I just keep it real with him, he’s like my confidant. Anyways, back to the point. Since I, as an adult, love to go to the spa and get massages I feel like my mini adult would love it too *substitute the massage bed for a changing table* LOL. I’m not a talented masseuse but he’s a baby and doesn’t know the difference so just rubbing him in oil is good enough. I give him a massage at least once a week and I just rub him down everywhere except his private parts *booty included*. Here’s a little video that was really helpful for me.
P.S. This was the ONLY oil I found without any added fragrance!
Argan Oil, high in vitamin E, softens and renews the skin.
Precious extracts of frankincense and myrrh have been given as gifts of beauty throughout history and work to repair and rejuvenate skin.
Alcohol free & fragrance free. SOLD! I’m a total germaphobe when it comes to the baby. I literally sanitize all the time, as much as I want to build his immunity I still remind myself that he’s a baby. SO, a non-drying hand sanitizer that’s harmless to him is a win for me. I have a few around the house.
Does that say snotsucker? Yes, yes it does. I never liked syringe bulbs for getting rid of boogers, I just couldn’t figure them out. Thankfully, there’s NoseFrida. You basically squirt some saline drops in the baby’s nose then you suck the boogies out. Sounds disgusting, but its totally not. The blue insert keeps the snot from actually going in your mouth lol. Plus you can suction the crap out of those suckers much better than a syringe. Oh, and I find that its easier to do this AFTER you’ve given the baby a bath because I feel like snot softens during bath time (maybe from the heat? not sure, but it works better lol).
P.S. If your baby has trouble pooping use the TheWindito help them. This stuff is so easy to use and so helpful when the baby is really uncomfortable because of gas or from being backed up (great for babies with constipation…use it with coconut oil).
I bathe the baby in his Summer Infant Tub which I love because it’s cheap (I can just get rid of it once he outgrows it bc I have used and abused mine), easy for newborns, soft, foldable, and its just a simple tub. BUT, before, when I didn’t insert my bath lotus in it it was so hard to use. I was a new mom, had no idea how to hold a baby, let alone bathe one, and it was a little intimidating because newborns are really small and the tubs are really big compared. I didn’t bathe my son for the first month of his life, I was that scared. Then, I started using this and it took up a lot of that “scary space” and made it easier for me. Now that he’s older I use it to hold his back up and that way I can give him a bath using both hands. My favorite part is that it’s really soft, dries easily, and I can show it in the washer with the rest of his laundry.
You can use this in your sink if you wash your baby there. I don’t have a convenient enough sink so I’ve never tried it but that’s what this was made for pretty much.
Also, if you bathe the baby in your tub and you’re on your knees and elbows the whole time you NEED, like neeeeeeedddddd, a kneeler and an elbow rest. I cannot bathe him without this stuff I swear it is a life saver.
OK actually three things.
The last one is a rinser. Unless your baby like water in his/her face then you need to get one. But not just any rinser. It needs to be comfortable, soft, and and actually practical. This is my favorite.
P.S. If you have any tub recommendation please comment below, he’s outgrowing this one already, and I’ve tried a few other ones and returned them. They were just so stiff and so uncomfortable. Please help!
Okay then, you need this. It is the only thing that removes my sons poop stains from his clothes. It also removes blood stains. Wondering why I’m trying to get rid of blood stains. Well, its an interesting story. I accidentally cut a little bit of my sons skin when I was cutting his nails, but didn’t notice because he didn’t even flinch or cry lol. Then five minutes later, I see a bunch of blood on his little rocker chair I put him in and it was all over the fabric and his clothes. Anyways, I soaked all that stuff in cold water with a bunch of oxi clean and it was all gone! Oh, and those bright yellow poop stains I use hot water and soak. All gone.
Don’t forget to wash per usual after.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!
Comment some of your favorite baby products below, I love trying out your recommendations!
